What to know before you start
An AI resume builder can improve the presentation of your work history, but it cannot know what you actually did unless you provide accurate information. Begin with a verified record of employers, roles, education and accomplishments. Use the AI as an editor and an organizer, not as a source of invented credentials.
Choose an uncomplicated resume structure
Use a header with appropriate contact details followed by a concise professional summary, work experience, skills and relevant education. For most roles, a single-column layout with standard headings is easier for people and many screening systems to read.
Write bullets that show contribution and impact
Explain what you did, the tools or approach you used, and why it mattered. For example, “Led onboarding improvements for a team of 12 and reduced setup time from five days to two” is stronger than “Responsible for employee onboarding”—but only if the numbers are accurate.
Adapt the resume to each opportunity
Prioritize experience matching the advertised role, using accurate terminology. Keep work history dates, qualifications and achievements consistent with your master resume. If a posting calls for stakeholder management, show the projects or partnerships where you practised it.
Proofread and export
Check spelling, tense, job titles, location and chronology. Read the exported PDF or DOCX to ensure it displays correctly, and submit the format requested by the employer. CareerPilot supports editing, tailoring and document export within a saved job workflow.
