What to know before you start
The best tailored resume is not the one with the most keywords. It is the one that makes the applicant’s most relevant experience easy to evaluate. AI can assist with wording and prioritization, but it should never invent a title, degree, metric or responsibility.
Start from a reliable master resume
Maintain one version containing verified dates, employers, roles, skills and accomplishments. Treat it as the source of truth and check every new draft against it.
Tailor the summary and top bullets
Read the posting and identify a few central themes. Reorder skills and accomplishments so relevant, truthful experience comes first. A general statement such as “Responsible for projects” is less useful than one that explains your actual scope and results.
Keep achievements verifiable
If the master resume says you supported an application migration, do not turn that into “Directed a $10M transformation” without evidence. The same rule applies to certifications, team size, percentages and technologies.
Use a readable export
Prefer a clean one-column layout with consistent headings. CareerPilot supports editable DOCX and PDF exports. Follow the employer’s file-type instructions and proofread before submission.
